Lets start with some important context.

IT Generic Positions (IT-01 to IT-05) in the Government of Canada fall into what are referred to as IT Generic Work Streams.  IT Generic Work Streams are really just different broad domains of IT work, but they do enable IT professionals to plan their career paths in both management and technical disciplines from entry level up to and including digital executive positions. In total, there are 51 IT Generic Positions spread across 8 IT Generic Work Streams (see the 'IT Generics" TAB for the list of IT Generic Positions by IT Generic Work Stream).

Treasury Board Secretariat have identified 35 competencies with multiple levels of proficiency (24 behavioural competencies and 11 technical competencies). Each of the 51 IT Generic Positions have been assigned a sub-set of these competencies (at a certain proficiency level). This is referred to as the Job Competency Profile (JCP) of the position. JCPs are competency requirements of the position, and are used by hiring managers to support recruitment, staffing, learning and development, career planning and performance management. JCPs are very relevant and important.

Our Services.

The IT Generic Behavioural Competency-Based Platform and Professional Development Coaching approach used by eNavigate Consulting Inc. was designed in response to the importance of JCPs and Self-Directed Learning, to help current and aspiring Government of Canada IT professionals navigate their career paths in this competitive staffing environment and prepare to assume positions of digital leadership.

We have two Tiers of service, each designed to help IT professionals master the behavioural competencies specific to their 'Target IT Generic Position":

Tier 1 - IT Generic Behavioural Competency-Based Online Exercise - At the time of registration, the client will be asked to identify an IT Generic Position (referring to the list in the 'IT Generics' tab) that they see as their 'Target IT Generic Position'. The'Target IT Generic Position' could be the position they currently occupy and wish to further advance their capabilities in, or it could be the position they consider to be the next step in their career advancement path. Our clients are often preparing to participate in an IT staffing process (interview / exam). Regardless, the 'Target IT Generic Position' is the position that is the focus of their current targeted learning and development efforts.

After completion of the registration process, the client will receive an email from eNavigate with a private and secure link to our IT Generic Behavioural Competency-Based Platform, where they will be directed to an exercise that was specifically developed for the exact IT Generic Position they identified at the time of registration. They will be provided with the exact behavioural competencies required by their Target IT Generic Position (IT Generic Positions generally have 7 - 10 required behavioural competencies), the required proficiency level of each competency (levels range from 1 (basic) - 5 (advanced) for each competency), a description of the expected behaviours at the required proficiency level, and most importantly -> reference scenarios (relevant to the Government of Canada IT working environment) that demonstrate the practical application of each behavioural competency at the required proficiency level in a real working environment. They will then answer a few questions regarding their experience as it relates to the competency, and will receive some feedback from the online platform.

Still using our online platform and referencing the example scenarios provided, our client will then begin to develop / document their own scenarios (leveraging experiences from their current position or a past position) where they have demonstrated each of the behavioural competencies at the required proficiency level. Doing so will provide them with meaningful insight into their readiness to demonstrate, in a competitive staffing process, the application of each competency at the required proficiency level. In documenting their scenarios, our client may determine they have the necessary knowledge / experience to demonstrate the behavioural competency at the required proficiency level, OR, they may identify key knowledge or experience gaps that translate into focused learning and development discussions with their manager, to incorporate into their Learning and Development plan.

The online training exercise is available for 14 days (or longer if requested) and can paused and resumed at any time. We recommend our clients negotiate two or three training days with their supervisor so they can complete the online training exercise in a focused manner. When our client submits the exercise, a PDF will be generated for download that will include all exercise material, including the sample scenarios provided and their scenario responses.

Tier 2 - IT Generic Behavioural Competency-Based Online Exercise, Detailed Review, Professional Development Coaching and Ongoing Support - When our clients register for our Tier 2 service, a former Government of Canada IT Executive or CIO will review their Tier 1 submission in detail and will provide practical and meaningful feedback in a virtual Professional Development Coaching Session, to be scheduled at our clients convenience. The coaching session will be focused on not only their online submission and the specific behavioural competencies required by their 'Target IT Generic Position' but will expand more broadly into any other areas the client would want to pursue. We will always match our clients with the Associate who is best positioned to provide maximum value. If our client is not fully satisfied with their coaching experience, the session will be repeated with another Associate at no charge.  Now, as an established client, eNavigate Consulting will always be available for follow-up questions / discussion - anytime - free of charge.
